Thai green curry is not what most people expect to find in a long term food store, which is exactly why it is worth having. Rice with coconut milk, tricolour peppers and peas in a green curry paste of chilli, lemongrass and coriander. After a fortnight of stew and pasta, something with actual heat and citrus in it does more for morale than another tin of the sensible option.

It is the biggest and the richest tin in the range. Eight servings against five or six for the others, and 559 calories a serving, which makes it the most calorie dense thing we stock. One tin carries 4,472 calories, so it holds more energy on the shelf than any other single tin here. It is vegan, and it needs less water than most: 165ml a serving against 250ml for the vegetable stew.

Each of our meals are cooked first, then freeze-dried. This means they are light-weight and easy to store. Our tins in particular are a fantastic way to pack a lot of food into a relatively small area, and at 800g a tin this is the most food you can put on a shelf in one go. With a shelf life of 25 years, this means you can always be sure to have a supply of delicious, nutritious meals.

Preparation is simple, which is ideal in an emergency. Take 100g of the dry mix from the tin and bring 165ml of water to the boil. Pour the water over the mix, cover it, and leave it to stand for 8 to 9 minutes. Stir, season to taste and serve. Once a tin is opened the plastic lid reseals it and the contents keep for 7 days.

Not sure about committing to a whole tin? The same dish is available as a single serving pouch, which is the cheapest way to find out whether your household will actually eat it before you put eight servings of it in the cupboard. There is no sense storing food nobody wants when it matters.

If you are not completely satisfied with your items then you can return them to Sgt Prepper Shop within 30 days of delivery. Damaged items or faults need to be reported within 48hrs of delivery.

Orders over £80 qualify for free standard delivery. For orders under £80, a flat £4.95 shipping fee applies.
